“The Devastation of Bartholomew Ka” is a work of fiction written by local author Sunshine Knight. It was published on June 15 by Knight IndiePub through CreateSpace, a division of Amazon. It is book one in The Ka Series Trilogy.
A book release celebration will be held at the Blue Sage Center for the Arts in Paonia on Saturday, July 16. from 3 to 5 p.m. Knight will do a short reading and then will be available for book signings, along with the cover artist, Chris Allen — a 2014 graduate of Hotchkiss High School.
The novel is a haunting story told from the first person perspective of a bitter ghost who committed suicide in 1891. For almost 100 years, Bartholomew is haunted by the living as the home he built is destroyed. However, that changes when Samantha moves in. She challenges Bartholomew in ways he thought were impossible and an unlikely friendship develops… temporarily. Throughout the story, Bartholomew struggles with forgiveness, something that continues to elude him in death.
Sunshine Knight is a graduate of Colorado Mesa University where she studied creative writing, history and sociology. She has several short stories published, but this is her first full length novel. She lives in the North Fork Valley, where she spends her time involved in the arts, writing, gardening and enjoying time with her husband, Steve Allen, and their three boys.
Other book signings will be held at the Doghouse Espresso in Delta on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon; and at The Church of Art in Hotchkiss on Friday, Sept. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.
